About The Author

Jonathan Francis Brodsky was born in Morristown, New Jersey on July 15th, 1978.  He is the only child of Lee David Brodsky and Joanne Rypp Firstenberg.  His parents separated when Jon was four years old, and Jon lived with his mother in New York City until the age of 10, when he moved with his mother and stepfather to New Orleans.  Following two years in New Orleans, Jon moved to Connecticut, where he became an expert equestrian.  Throughout his childhood, Jon traveled extensively, visiting much of Central America, Europe, Russia and Asia.

When he turned 15, Jon was accepted to Choate Rosemary Hall.  While at Choate, Jon was involved in many extra-curricular activities, including serving as editor of one of the school’s literary magazines, Inchoate, working as editor of the school’s weekly sports newspaper, The Press, and acting as the President of Choate’s environmental club.  Jon was also a member of the cross-country, track and ski teams at Choate.  He graduated with honors in 1996.

In 1996, Jon was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania.  While at Penn, Jon was a member of the Crew team during his freshman year and became President of his fraternity in his sophomore year.  During his years at Penn, Jon worked a variety of jobs, including as a salesperson for a dot-com, a tutor, a designer of terrorism insurance policies and as a trader’s assistant on Wall Street.  Jon graduated Cum Laude in December 1999 with a B.A. in Economics and minors in Mathematics and History.

Following graduation, Jon took six months off to ski in Sun Valley, Idaho and then to travel around Asia.  Upon his return to the United States, Jon took a job as an analyst at Securitas Capital, a private equity firm sponsored by Swiss Reinsurance Company and Credit Suisse Group.  While at Securitas, Jon took the lead on a number of the company’s transactions, including the purchase and integration of Conning Corporation and the formation of Employers Direct Insurance Company.  As part of his job, Jon traveled throughout the United States, living in Los Angeles and Hartford, Connecticut for work for extended periods of time.

In the summer of 2003, in the midst of a major restructuring at Swiss Re, Jon was called back from assignment in Los Angeles.  He returned to his job in New York and, dissatisfied with the direction the company was taking, he left in order to pursue his dream of writing fiction.  Prism, which took over three years to write, was started at this time.  After writing for over a year (and working odd jobs to pay the bills) , Jon elected to return to the working world.  He is currently the acting Chief Operating Officer of a small non-profit trade association based in New York City.

Jon’s ancestry is Russian and Polish.  He is 6’1 and 175 pounds.  When he is not writing, he is an avid skier, surfer and reader.  Jon is also involved in supporting the arts, public radio and certain environmental causes.

Jon has never been married and has no children.
